Aer Lingus Baggage Fees (2026)

Updated 2026-06-24

Quick summary

Aer Lingus is Ireland's flag carrier, but it operates two quite different products. On short-haul European routes its fares behave like a low-cost carrier — cheaper Saver fares come with only a personal item and a small checked bag, while higher fares bundle in cabin and hold baggage. On long-haul transatlantic routes it is a full-service airline, with cabin baggage and a personal item included on every fare but checked luggage added on the cheapest fares. Fees are quoted in EUR (with USD equivalents on transatlantic routes). Allowances vary by fare and by route — confirm at booking.

At a glance

🎒 Personal item

One small under-seat item up to 25 x 33 x 20 cm (such as a handbag or laptop bag), included on every fare across both short-haul and transatlantic flights.

🧳 Carry-on

On most Aer Lingus flights, one cabin bag up to 10kg, maximum 55 x 40 x 24 cm, in addition to the personal item. On all transatlantic flights both a carry-on and a personal item are included for every passenger. Aer Lingus Regional flights (operated by Emerald Airlines) allow one cabin bag up to 7kg, max 48 x 33 x 20 cm. Note: on the cheapest short-haul Saver fare the full cabin bag may not be included — check your fare.

How to avoid extra fees

  • Short-haul Aer Lingus fares behave like a low-cost carrier — read what your Saver fare actually includes before assuming hold luggage is free.
  • On transatlantic routes, every fare includes a cabin bag and personal item, but the cheapest Saver fare does not include a checked bag (from €75 to add).
  • Add checked or extra bags online before getting to the airport — European excess is €10 per kg at the airport.
  • Aer Lingus Regional (Emerald Airlines) flights have a smaller 7kg / 48 x 33 x 20 cm cabin allowance — pack lighter for those.
  • Keep each checked bag under 23kg; bags 23–32kg incur a flat €75/$100 overweight fee, and no bag over 32kg is accepted.
