airBaltic Baggage Fees (2026)

Updated 2026-07-12

Quick summary

airBaltic is Latvia's low-cost carrier, and like most budget airlines its baggage allowance is tied entirely to the fare you buy — the cheapest Economy BASIC and MINI fares carry no checked bag at all, so add bags online to avoid steep airport rates.

The bottom line on airBaltic baggage

airBaltic prices like a budget airline, so your baggage depends entirely on the fare: only a personal item is guaranteed, and the cheapest Economy BASIC and MINI fares include no checked bag at all. The trap is turning up with a bag on a bare fare and paying the check-in desk rate, which can be three to four times the online price.

The surest way to save is to add any checked bag online during booking — from about €14.99 one-way versus up to about €60 at the desk. If you will check a bag anyway, compare Economy CLASSIC, which already includes a 23 kg bag, against BASIC plus a paid one.

Hidden pitfalls most travelers miss

  • The cheapest Economy MINI fare is personal-item only — no full cabin bag — so a small suitcase alone can force you into a pricier fare or a paid add-on.
  • The check-in desk bag rate (about €60) runs three to four times the online price (from about €14.99), so a bag added at the airport is the most expensive way to fly.
  • The 8 kg combined cabin-weight limit is enforced at the gate; upgrading to 12 kg in advance (from about €13.99) is cheaper than paying on the day.
