Wizz Air Baggage Fees (2026)

Updated 2026-06-24

Quick summary

Wizz Air is an ultra-low-cost carrier: every passenger gets one free small carry-on bag (max 40 x 30 x 20 cm) that must fit under the seat in front of you — and that is the only free bag. A larger overhead cabin bag (55 x 40 x 23 cm, up to 10kg) comes only with WIZZ Priority, and all hold luggage is a paid extra. Pre-book everything online, because bags that don't fit the gate sizer are charged a steep oversize fee at the gate. Fares are in euros (or local currency such as GBP/HUF/PLN depending on departure airport).

At a glance

🎒 Personal item

Free on every fare: one small carry-on bag up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm (including handles and wheels) that must fit under the seat in front of you. This is the only free bag on a standard (non-Priority) ticket.

🧳 Carry-on

A larger cabin bag up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and a maximum of 10kg for the overhead locker is NOT free — it is included only with WIZZ Priority (which also gives faster boarding). WIZZ Priority is added at booking or later for a fee that varies by route and demand.

🔁 Change & cancellation

Wizz Air fares are largely non-refundable. Flight changes are allowed for a per-passenger change fee plus any fare difference, and are cheaper when made earlier and online rather than at the airport. WIZZ Flex (an add-on) lets you change the flight date/time free of charge within a window. Optional WIZZ Privilege Pass or refund-protection products may apply — check the fare conditions at booking.

Oversize bag at the gate (doesn't fit sizer)around €30 – €60 per item, placed in hold
Excess checked weight€13 per kg, per flight (up to 32kg max per bag)

How to avoid extra fees

  • The free bag is only 40 x 30 x 20 cm — one of the smallest in Europe and it must fit under the seat. Measure before you fly.
  • If you need an overhead trolley, you must buy WIZZ Priority; there is no other way to get the larger cabin bag onboard.
  • Buy all checked bags online at booking — gate and airport prices are far higher, and an oversize bag at the gate costs roughly €30–€60.
  • Always check in online and download your boarding pass; airport check-in and printed passes carry extra fees.
  • Excess weight is €13/kg, so weigh bags at home and buy the next weight tier online if you are close to the limit.
